State Tournament Summary

AHC wrapped up its State Tournament participation this past weekend with the PW-AA’s playing in the Tier IV tournament in Falmouth, and the Squirt-AAA team playing in the Tier III tournament in Haverhill.

The PW-AA’s went 2-1 in round robin play, beating the eventual Champion, Hanover, 1-0 in over time. Unfortunately, the overtime win was only worth two points (a regulation win is worth three points), causing the team to be eliminated in the round robin play, despite having a winning record.

The Squirt-AAA’s started the tournament on a low note, losing to Hanover 5-1, in their initial game. The next day they bounced back and beat Haverhill 7-0, and upset Charlestown 3-0 (Charlestown plays in the top league, several above AHC), to advance to the semifinals, with a 2-1 record. In the semifinal, they beat Holy Name 6-2, to advance to the Championship game against Hanover (again). In the Championship, they went down 2-0 early in the first, but kept their focus and worked through a scoreless second period. In the third period they rallied to tie the game in the last five minutes, which generated a lot of momentum going into overtime, tied 2-2. Unfortunately they lost a few minutes into the overtime off a tipped shot from Hanover.

This season AHC sent six teams to the Massachusetts State Tournament, all of whom represented Arlington with distinction:

  • Bantam AAA team - Semifinalist
  • Bantam AA team - eliminated in round robin play

  • Peewee AA team – eliminated in round robin play
